Why a Diffuser Should be Part of Your Beauty Routine
If you’re like me and part of the #curlygirlgang you know the struggles when it comes to doing your hair. It never comes out the same every day, it does what it wants, and heat and humidity are your worst enemies. I personally have been through hell and back with my hair in the last ten years. I’ve dyed it multiple times to the point where my curls were fried from the harsh chemicals. I’ve straightened my hair so much in the past that I’ve damaged my natural curl pattern. I was fed up and frustrated with my hair, so I decided to make a change. In the last few years, I’ve made a more conscious effort to lay off the heat and chemicals and let my hair breathe. It’s taken some time, but I finally feel comfortable embracing and loving my curls. Today I’m sharing with y’all why a diffuser should be part of your everyday beauty routine.
Everyone Should Have a Diffuser
I just recently started using a diffuser about two years ago, and more consciously in the last few months. Every time I style my hair I always use my diffuser. This has become the holy grail and secret to my voluminous curls.
The best part about using a diffuser as part of your beauty routine? NO FRIZZ! A diffuser disperses the airflow of a blow dryer over large areas. This process allows the hair to coil together, dry faster, and maintain volume without damaging your natural curl pattern. I absolutely love using my diffuser and am sharing the top three reasons why you need to jump on the bandwagon.
1. Speeds up Dry Time
In order for me to style my hair, it needs to be wet. So I typically spritz some water to dampen my hair and then add my styling products. Before discovering a diffuser, my dry time would take me about half an hour or so (because I was letting it air dry). My curls lacked volume and looked kinda sad and droopy to be honest. With a diffuser, my dry time is about 5 minutes or less. I used to dread doing my hair, now it’s something I look forward to every day because it only takes a few minutes.
Tip: for best results, use medium to high heat on your diffuser
2. Adds Volume and Bounce
When using a diffuser, you’re instantly adding volume and bounce to your hair. I like to dry my hair in sections, with my head tilted or facing down to scrunch as much hair as I can. Focus on getting the ends of your hair to the roots, maximizing the amount of bounce and volume for your curls. The volume and bounce in my curls last me all day, literally.
Tip: after your hair has dried, run your fingers through your roots and fluff/shake your roots to add extra volume. Use a texturizing spray on your roots as well to lock in the volume.
3. Defines Curls
I have definitely noticed a difference in my curls when I air-dry versus using a diffuser to dry my hair. When I air dry, my hair ends up looking more like waves then curls because of the weight of the water and product in my hair. When using a diffuser, your curls intertwine with the nodes of the diffuser, allowing them to take better form.
Focus on each section of your hair for a solid 10-15 seconds before moving on to the next. Repeat this process until your hair has dried thoroughly.
Your Hair Routine Will Never be the Same
I kid you not, I take my diffuser with me everywhere I go, even when traveling overseas. It’s made such a difference in my curl pattern, volume, and dry time. It’s allowed me to lay off the harsh heat products and focus on letting my hair grow stronger and faster.
