2 Refreshing Summertime Cocktails

With the start of summer and the fourth of July weekend coming up I wanted to share with y’all two refreshing summertime cocktails perfect for a hot sunny day. Lots of fresh seasonal fruits are in right now such as watermelon, peach, and raspberry when it comes to making cocktails. Today I’ll be sharing a watermelon mint margarita and a cucumber basil margarita— both are refreshing and super easy to make!

Of the two cocktails, I’ve got to say the watermelon mint marg is my favorite! At home, we’ve got a bunch of fresh mint that grows in the backyard and I always look forward to incorporating it in my cooking or cocktails. I encourage you to start your own mini garden, fresh herbs always making everything better. For these cocktails, I recommend using a silver or blanco tequila.

Watermelon Mint Margarita

What you’ll need:

  • 1 1/2 oz. fresh-squeezed lime juice

  • 1 oz. agave nectar

  • 1 oz. triple sec

  • 2 1/2 oz. tequila

  • 4-5 cubed pieces of watermelon, muddled

  • 4-6 springs of mint

Start off by muddling the cubed watermelon pieces and mint together in a pint glass or shaker. Don’t over do it with the muddling, it’s simply to release the oils from the mint and juice from the watermelon. Add your fresh-squeezed lime juice, agave, tequila, and triple sec into the glass. Add ice and shake. Double strain into a glass with fresh ice. Feel free to add a sugar or salt rim if you’d like. Finally, garnish the drink with a cubed watermelon piece and a spring of mint. Cheers!

Cucumber Basil Margarita

The cucumber basil margarita is super refreshing! It’s perfect to keep you hydrated by the pool or beach. If you’d like to spice it up a bit, feel free to add a few pieces of jalapeños in the mix.

What you’ll need:

  • 1 1/2 oz. fresh-squeezed lime juice

  • 1 oz. agave nectar

  • 1 oz. triple sec

  • 2 1/2 oz. tequila

  • 2-3 wheels of cucumber

  • 3-4 basil leaves

Start off by muddling the basil and cucumber in a pint glass or shaker. Make sure to muddle a little extra hard to get as much juice as possible from the cucumber. Muddle in a fresh jalapeno if you’d like— one slice should be enough heat. Add in the fresh-squeezed lime juice, agave, tequila, and triple sec into the glass. Add ice and shake. Double strain into a glass with fresh ice. Feel free to add a sugar or salt rim if you’d like. Finally, garnish the drink with a cucumber wheel and basil leaf to give it an extra hint of aroma. Plus, now you’ve got a mini snack. Cheers! Enjoy.

If tequila is not your poison of choice, use gin or vodka instead. I recommend topping the drink off with seltzer water if you are using gin or vodka. Trust me, you’re gonna love it!
