4 Ways to Connect With Friends who are Long Distance

It seems as though all my friends are hundred of miles away during this quarantine. As much as I try to stay in contact with everyone, I’ll admit it’s been difficult at times. In the midst of dealing with our own personal agendas, sometimes we get carried away and forget to reach out to others. Today I’m sharing with y’all four ways to connect with your friends during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Little Words Project

Show your friend you’re thinking about them by sending them words of encouragement that they can wear! Little Words Project creates handcrafted bracelets with inspirational words and messages to promote self-love and confidence. There are a variety of core words to choose from such as fearless, grateful, and GRL PWR. You can also customize a bracelet made specifically with your friend in mind.

During COVID-19, Little Words Project is offering limited edition bracelets to those fighting on the frontlines with 25% off the proceeds going towards donations of medical supplies to local hospitals!

Customized Care Package

Surprise your friend with a care package filled with goodies they’ll love! You don’t have to go overboard and spend a fortune. It’s the thought that counts, that’s what makes a care package the perfect item to connect with your friends and show them some extra love.

You can include items such as the following:

  • A handwritten card

  • Their favorite nail polish

  • Scented candle

  • Facial masks/scrubs

  • Bath bombs

  • Their favorite candy/chips/snacks

  • Tie-Dye kit

  • A gift card to their favorite store

Majority of the items in your care package can be found at your local Target, Walmart of Dollar Store. If you want to add some extra flair and personality, stop at your local arts and crafts store and pick up some art supplies.

Handwritten Letters

Growing up, I used to love getting handwritten letters in the mail from friends and family. As I got older though, I realized the only letters in the mail with my name on it were bills (not fun).

I feel as though handwriting letters are a thing of the past, no one really does it anymore. Show your friend you genuinely care about them through a letter. Although it may be old fashioned, it’s a more intimate form of communication. It shows you took the time out of your day to sit down and process your thoughts on paper versus sending an “I miss u” text. Connect with friends you haven’t talk to in forever or surprise that one friend who’s been a little bit distant.

Weekly Video Check-Ins

Whether it be through Facetime or Zoom, make an effort to chat and see eachother “face to face”. Figure out a time and day of the week that works for both of you and commit to it. Make it a routine and change up the agenda every week. You can have a coffee date, happy hour, or bake goods over video. Seeing your friends through video is the best way to stay connected, especially when they’re hundreds of miles away.

I personally love to Facetime my friends because I miss their faces and it’s always nice to actually see them. My girlfriends and I do happy hour every once in a while and although it doesn’t include half-priced appetizers, it still makes me happy. Looking for cocktail inspiration for your next happy hour? Now more than ever we need to stress the importance of communication and community. Reach out to your friends and loved ones, whether it be a phone call or quick text. Show them you’re thinking of them and that you care. We are living in a very difficult, uncomfortable time and maintaining a strong connection with our friends will help us get through it.
